North Carolina EMS Faces Funding Hurdles, Urgent Need to Improve 911 Times

Kiss 95.1
In a third-party review commissioned last year by Mecklenburg County and Medic, North Carolina's busiest Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system, Medic falls short of 911 response times.
The review company, Healthcare Strategists, analyzed Medic last year, examining operations at the EMS provider and pinpointing multiple problems that need fixing.
One of the main challenges the review found is in outdated EMS systems that can stall the EMS technicians' efficiency and response times.
Insufficient funding for updating systems also slows 911 response times, especially in more rural areas around Charlotte.
Medic maintains one of the highest cardiac arrest survival rates in the U.S., serving Mecklenburg County and handling more emergency calls than any other EMS operation statewide.
