HAMILTON, Ontario — The Canadian government will provide up to $100 million of financial support for interprovincial transportation of Canadian steel products, Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon announced today (Monday, Aug. 10).
The Commodities Sectorial Support Program, which launches today, will rebate 50% of eligible rail or marine transport costs.
“Canadians are looking for more opportunities to buy Canadian products, including Canadian steel.
Only Canadian steel or steel products with a point of origin and destination in Canada will be eligible.
For rail shipments, the rebate applies to carload traffic; for marine movements, it covers non-containerized cargo.
