A 21-year-old man from Mount Vernon, Missouri, was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 44 Saturday night. The crash happened around 9:17 p.m. Aug. 8 in Mount Vernon. Investigators say the victim was in the roadway when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:28 p.m.Next of kin has been notified but his name has not been made public. The Highway Patrol says this marks Troop D’s 76th traffic fatality of 2026.
