Throughout Melon's treatment I'd been bombarded with conflicting advice from the emergency vet, Melon's vets, and the FIP admins. And yet it seems obvious that FIP Warriors, despite its drug-profiteering past and lack of regulatory oversight, saved Melon's life. Although GS-441524 can now be legally prescribed through regulated pharmacies, there are still enormous knowledge gaps around FIP in veterinary medicine. It is baffling to me that none of the four emergency vets who saw Melon told me about these underground Facebook groups. I think about all the other cats with FIP whose owners never learn about the drug or can't afford it.
