A new trilateral effort is taking shape around the Type 212CD submarine as three NATO nations prepare to deepen their undersea cooperation amid growing security concerns in the Arctic and North Atlantic.
Trilateral planning begins in Kiel The event marked the first joint planning meeting involving all three nations under the 212CD program.
Arctic security shapes cooperation The expanded partnership comes as NATO places greater emphasis on protecting northern sea routes, monitoring undersea activity and securing critical infrastructure across the Arctic and North Atlantic.
“The 212CD program combines cutting-edge technology with a shared security vision and will sustainably strengthen maritime cooperation within NATO,” Keupp said.
The Kiel talks now open a more intensive phase as the partners prepare for contract negotiations and determine how the third nation will be integrated into the 212CD program.
