VALDOSTA — The City of Valdosta invites the public to attend the ribbon cutting and dedication of the Jeanette Newbern Coody Shelter, formerly known as the Craig Center, on Friday, Aug. 14, at 10 a.m. at 1104 W. Gordon St.
The newly renamed shelter will serve as the city’s warming and cooling shelter, providing a safe and welcoming refuge for residents during periods of extreme heat and severe cold, the City of Valdosta said in its invitation.
Renaming the facility in honor of Jeanette Newbern Coody recognizes a lifetime devoted to serving others and reflects the shelter’s continued mission of providing safety, comfort, and hope to those in need.
“When we considered renaming this facility, it became clear that no name better represents its purpose than Jeanette Newbern Coody,” Crace said.
The City of Valdosta encourages residents, community leaders, partners, and all who were touched by Coody’s remarkable life and service to attend this special ceremony celebrating her lasting legacy.
