Italian police officers are patrolling on the streets of Athens together with their Greek colleagues. The first joint patrols by police officers from Greece and Italy have been implemented, as part of the two countries’ ever-increasing cooperation on public security issues. According to a statement from the Italian Embassy, the action is coordinated by the International Police Cooperation Service (SCIP), which is part of the Central Criminal Police Directorate of the Italian Department of Public Security. The Italian Ambassador to Greece, Paolo Koukouli, welcomed the two Italian police officers participating in the joint patrols in the center of Athens, in the presence of the Director of the Athens Police Directorate, Brigadier General Nikos Giannopoulos. A similar operational program is already being implemented in the Italian capital, where officers of the Greek Police carry out joint patrols with officers of the Italian Police in Rome, contributing to strengthening security, better serving Greek visitors and further deepening cooperation between the two security forces.
