People from across Allendale and the wider district came together on Saturday August 1 to celebrate the successful restoration of Isaac's Well in the centre of the village, following a nine-month restoration project led by the Allen Valleys Local History Group. The restoration uncovered 19th century cobbling, requiring a change in the plans and use of reclaimed stone sourced from the dale. Valeria Dunn, chair of the Allen Valleys Local History Group, said: "We were then faced with revising our plans and sourcing similar local stone to better match the originals. "This also added to the physical work of the local building team, D and J White, but they rose to the challenge." The project was supported by the North Pennines National Landscape team, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic England, and other organisations.
