Updated 3.40pmArkadia Foodstore supermarkets across the country have been rebranded as SPAR outlets, as part of a takeover deal by Azzopardi Group. Outlets in St Julian’s, Naxxar, Msida and Valletta’s Is-Suq Tal-Belt food market were all displaying SPAR branding when The Business Picture visited the shops on Tuesday. The outgoing owner of the Arkardia Foodstore chain, Mizzi Organisation, said yesterday that the transfer of the brand was due to be concluded “in the coming days”, with the handover “currently underway”. The subsidiary operates the SPAR brand in Malta. Malta’s first SPAR opened in Marsaxlokk in 2018, two years after Malta Retailing Ltd struck an exclusive deal with the food giant.
