The new facility will become the permanent base for Animal Care Tiree, which provides veterinary services to both Tiree and Coll. The practice is the UK’s first community-owned veterinary practice and launched in February 2026 following the retirement of the island’s previous vet in August 2025. Since launching, Animal Care Tiree has delivered almost 800 appointments, with five rotating vets providing services to the island community. The project was developed through a partnership involving Urras Thiriodh, Tiree Rural Development and Animal Care Tiree. Rhoda Meek, chair of Animal Care Tiree, said: "Securing the future of veterinary care in Tiree is not only about people and animals – it is about buildings too.
