Precautionary advice against bathing and paddling had been in place since the end of June after a pollution incident involving a rising main pipeline near Saltcoats Pumping Station. Scottish Water initially carried out repairs before turning its attention to constructing a temporary 1.2km overland bypass pipeline. The pipe is now fully operational and carrying flows, stopping the discharge from Saltcoats Pumping Station and allowing wastewater to be transferred to Stevenston for treatment.
