Council leader Mark Blake said the authority "strongly disagrees" with the code, warning that it could add to uncertainty for trans and non-binary people, many of whom are already facing discrimination. Cllr Blake said: "We strongly disagree with the code of practice and are deeply concerned by the direction it has taken. He argued the changes do not reflect "the lived experiences of many people affected by them" and could have far-reaching consequences for "equality, dignity and social cohesion." The council said it will continue working with affected communities and partner organisations to provide support. Cllr Blake said: "We will continue to advocate for approaches that uphold equality, reduce discrimination, and ensure that every resident is treated with dignity and respect."
