The fire on the anti-clockwise stretch of motorway between J6 and J5 broke out at around 4.05pm this afternoon (August 10). A carriageway closure was put into place over an hour later at 5.14pm as a result of the severity of the fire, which has sent smoke across the M25. There is no current estimation for when the carriageway will be reopened to allow traffic to get on the move again. At present, motorists face severe delays in excess of 70 minutes on the approach and at least seven miles of congestion. A diversion has been put into place for drivers who are affected, indicated by Hollow Square symbols on road signs.
