A jury concluded that Shakespeare had committed the acts, but Judge Michael Roques said the court had limited powers to deal with the offence. Shakespeare was made the subject of notification requirements and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years. In a statement, the victims' family said: "The main thing we would really like to stress is how long this case took to reach court. "What is particularly difficult for us to understand is the position the court has ultimately left everyone in. "We would never want another victim or family to go through what our family has experienced and be left feeling the same way."
