PARLY RISES FROM THE ASHES - Rebuild reaches 76 percent, with completion set for 2027

Image: SuppliedCONSTRUCTION of Parliament’s new National Assembly is now 76% complete, with the main structural envelope expected to be finished by November and the wider rebuilding project scheduled for completion by June 2027.
The committee said the project remained within its approved R4.68 billion budget, with approximately R2.43 billion, or 52%, spent by the end of June.
Members were also briefed by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), which is serving as the implementing agent on the rebuilding project.
The Joint Standing Committee on the Financial Management of Parliament (JSCFMP), inspected progress at the fire-damaged National Assembly and Old Assembly buildings.
These included underground water and waterproofing challenges, as well as hard rock discovered beneath the new National Assembly chamber.
