Aug 11, 2026Dwayne PageThey will try again! With new members on the board after last week’s election, the Town of Alexandria Mayor and Aldermen will meet in special session Thursday night, August 13 to once again vote on a resolution to increase sewer rates by 20% to avoid a potential September showdown with the Tennessee Board of Utility RegulatorsThe special meeting will be Thursday, August 13 at 6 p.m. at city hall. The proposed 20% sewer rate increase was recommended in a recent rate study, which was also required by the state. Mayor Ford explained that the comptroller has already failed to approve the town’s new budget as submitted without the sewer rate increase and now city leaders are facing a possible subpoena to appear before the TBOUR (Tennessee Board of Utility Regulators) to give an account. Since that meeting, a city election has been held and new members will be on the board including Aldermen Margaret Stevens, Curtis Rutter, and Susan Holmes along with Incumbent Debbie Fischer.
