Project owner Revera Energy and EPC contractor Mitie Power & Grid have broken ground on the 2-hour Windyhill BESS project in Scotland.
GE Vernova is providing the battery energy storage system (BESS) units while Mitie Power & Grid is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and balance of plant (BOP) contractor, including design and construction of the 132kV grid connection.
Outsourcing giant Mitie entered the BESS EPC space when it acquired G2 Energy in 2023.
G2 Energy was one of the leading independent grid connection providers (IPCs) in the BESS market before it closed due to financial trouble.
One of Mitie’s first high-profile projects as part of this shift was a 720MWh BESS project it started building for Elements Green last year.
