Did the protagonist of The Ten Thousand Doors of January inadvertedly cause the world wars?
[]
So many books, so little time
I just finished this book, it was a good read and def recommend it to fans of this kind of thing, but shortly afterwards, this thought occurred to me. According to the Archaeological Society, the Doors are associated with wars, revolutions and instability, and they credit the period of relative peace and stability at the time when the book is set to their efforts of closing them. The ending of the book is set in 1911 and shows January embarking on a quest to thwart the Society and reopen the doors they had closed. The timing, if the Society's beliefs are right (which is, of course, not granted), is rather... ominous. Did she invertedly cause the world wars, and by extension, the goddamn Holocaust? Puts rather a different perspective on the story... Do you think this implication was intended, or is it one of those unfortunate coincidences the author didn't think of?
