The democratic transition in Venezuela is a work in progress, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a recent briefing. Secretary Rubio explained that the United States is pursuing two policy tracks in Venezuela. So, Secretary Rubio called for “persistence and a little bit of patience” regarding the timing of elections, “not in terms of years, but certainly months and weeks.” There is movement toward a democratic transition in Venezuela. “And even though the progress is probably slower than all of us would want,” said Secretary Rubio, “there is progress and progress will happen, and we’re committed to it.”
