The current heatwave in Europe, and Africa, as of early August 2026, has thrown modern climate change denial, into clear relief. Where I’ve always strongly disagreed with conventional analysis about climate change denial, is the sincerity of those who deny climate change. I have long seen climate change denial as a disingenuous contrivance, a strategy, to put off the need to address climate change. They will shift from totally denying climate change is happening, to admitting that climate change is happening, just that it is natural, or there is nothing we can do about it. This is what causes me to question, whether the apparent difference between right wing, outright climate change denial, and centrist acceptance of climate change and the need for action, are indeed different.
