Yesteryear - fishy edition in ebooks. Don’t fall for it!
[]
So many books, so little time
So, I downloaded a sample of the book from iBooks because the full book will be available in a few days at a reduced price (around £5). It seems this might be the paperback edition when it's printed, the cover is a landscape. The cover is different, but the author, title, and subject matter are the same, and they're releasing the English, Italian, Spanish, and Dutch editions on the same day. Reading this sample, the book's style seems simple and low quality, but I don't expect much more from a bestseller. However, I think the possessives are sometimes confused in certain sentences. For example, she talks about her daughter but uses the first person, and when her husband is talking about his own father, she says "your father is a senator" instead of "my father is a senator." It's a bit confusing. So I downloaded another sample from an earlier edition, which I believe is the original (the cover features part of a woman’s head), and the book is completely different from the very first paragraph (this original edition is much better written, I only read the beginning to see the difference). This is the first paragraph from the first copy I download, the fishy one: “I woke up at five forty-five. The alarm was two minutes away from ringing, and I opened my eyes. That’s discipline. That’s grace. That’s proof that I’m not the type of woman to let my body drag me along with laziness. “ And then she changes the subject and starts talking about the weather.. And this is the equivalent in the original: “This is the last day of the life I imagined for myself. I woke up two minutes before my alarm went off, like usual. Five fifty-eight and bing eyes wide open, ready to greet the day. I’ve never had a hard time waking up in the morning. Never used the snoozed button, either, not once in my life. Sobriety helps. I don’t think. Discipline helps, too. I was born with spades of discipline. I’m practically overflowing with it - which is why, I think, I’ve never had that much trouble with anything in my life. Not motherhood, not marriage, not building a business, not serving Him. All of it appeared to me as a series of tasks to be accomplished each day, at he right time, in the correct chronological order. I know it’s not that easy for other people, but it really is for me. That’s why all those strangers liked me so much. That, and the money. The money definitely helped too. And then, starts the bit about the weather. What’s going on here? I even checked up that the original language from the book is English, so I don’t understand anything. Usually all copies should have the same information, right? Well, so I check again, and I see that the NAME of the author in the copy was Caro Claire BurkeN, with an n at the end. This is the craziest, stupidest thing that ever happened to me. I didn’t buy the book because it was only in presale, but I hope nobody falls for it!
