Potential EU Ban On Brazilian Meat Could Threaten Supply Chains And Prices – Rabobank
['Branislav Pekic']
ESM Magazine
Starting 3 September 2026, the EU may halt all Brazilian meat imports unless the country can satisfy EU regulations banning the use of antimicrobials for livestock growth promotion, according to research by Rabobank.
The international cooperative bank reported that because Brazil lacks a national surveillance system for antimicrobial sales, the country will struggle to demonstrate full compliance with EU veterinary rules.
Renewed Upward PressureWhile Argentina, Uruguay and Australia may increase shipments, Rabobank expects EU beef prices to face renewed upward pressure.
An EU suspension of Brazilian beef would create even larger domestic surpluses.
To offload displaced poultry exports, Brazilian exporters will likely push higher volumes into the UK, Mexico, Asia and the Middle East, accepting lower prices and intensifying competition among global exporters.
