The Lyric Theatre on Barrack Street has stood in town for nearly 250 years and in that time has given many aspiring performers the chance to get on the stage in their hometown. A spokesperson for the theatre previously said: "The Lyric’s roof is in very poor condition after years of deterioration and water ingress. Last week, in the final moments of the two month-long campaign, the goal was not just met but surpassed. Owner Niki McCretton sold her house to buy The Lyric in 2010 after it was left empty for four years. Work will now commence in the next few weeks and updates will be shared on the theatre’s progress.
