Senegal’s wheat imports climbed to nearly 1 million tons in 2025 as domestic consumption increased and the country expanded its flour-milling capacity. The average price of imported wheat fell from CFA276 per kilogram in 2022 to CFA178 per kilogram, according to national statistics. A recently completed wheat flour mill has the capacity to process 500 tons of wheat per day, providing additional capacity for both domestic consumption and regional markets. Senegal exported an average of 13,861 tons of soft wheat flour annually between 2020 and 2023, with exports reaching 29,249 tons in 2021. With wheat consumption continuing to grow and milling capacity expanding, Senegal’s dependence on imported wheat is likely to remain significant.
