The initiative forms part of Egypt’s broader efforts to reduce plastic pollution and encourage more sustainable industrial production.
Local Development and Environment Minister Manal Awad described the cooperation between Egypt, Japan and UNIDO as an example of how environmental protection can support sustainable industrial development.
The project also aims to strengthen Egypt’s industrial competitiveness by connecting quality standards, laboratory testing and manufacturing.
Industry Minister Khaled Hashem said stronger conformity-assessment capabilities could help Egyptian manufacturers meet international technical requirements and expand production of environmentally sustainable alternatives.
Improved testing capacity could help accelerate the adoption of sustainable plastic alternatives and support the country’s broader transition toward a more resource-efficient circular economy.
