Ethiopia is testing a new model of regenerative and climate-smart agriculture in the Jimma Zone, with support from the African Development Bank Group and Japan-backed partners.
The project is supported by the Policy and Human Resource Development Grant, a Japan-financed trust fund managed by the African Development Bank Group.
Implemented in Ethiopia by the Sasakawa Africa Association, the Evidence-based Regenerative Agriculture to Address Climate Change in Africa project combines farmer training, climate-resilient crop varieties, soil restoration techniques and digital agricultural technology.
The scale of participation demonstrates the potential for regenerative agriculture techniques to contribute to food security while strengthening the livelihoods of smallholder farming communities.
Ethiopia’s regenerative agriculture programme highlights how international development partnerships can combine financing, scientific research, digital technology and farmer-led innovation.
