The meeting will take place from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Appleton Veterans of Foreign Wars post, 450 South Munsterman Street. The Prairie Correctional Facility has remained vacant since 2010 when the prison officially closed. On Aug. 4, CoreCivic announced that it had come to terms on a new contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that would lead to reopening the prison. According to Westrom, the reopening will create approximately 450 jobs. According to tax records, Appleton city and township were to receive $521,293.30 of the $809,090 total gross property tax bill payable in 2026 by CoreCivic.
