NATHAN Binner saw red as 10-man Droitwich Spa began the 2026/27 season with a 1-0 defeat at Roman Glass St George in a fiery opening day encounter. Townsend’s new-look side made a promising start as James Lemon saw his shot hit the post and bounce into the arms of Roman goalkeeper Ryan Smallwood. And the home side eventually broke the deadlock on 70 minutes when Plummer found the net after Spa goalkeeper Dom Rogerson failed to deal with a cross into the box. Tempers had threatened to boil over all game and Spa saw midfielder Binner sent off five minutes after the goal for a two-footed challenge despite appearing to win the ball. Droitwich are next in action against Cinderford Town on Tuesday, August 4 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the King George Playing Fields.
