The Salvation Army in Yellowknife says it's used up all of the federal funding it receives annually to support people facing eviction and has to turn away those in need. (Saloni Bhugra/CBC)The City of Yellowknife administers the federal funding and says it can't share if other local organizations reported running out of the money, as well. In an emailed statement, city spokesperson Saxon Chung said those experiencing housing instability should contact Housing N.W.T. Ella Newhook, director of housing programs with Housing N.W.T., said residents struggling to pay rent or facing eviction should contact their local housing organization as soon as possible. The Salvation Army will be turning away people until there is more money, he said.
