The San Diego Foundation has awarded $806,495 in grants to 23 organizations working to expand trees, community gardens, restored natural areas and other green spaces across San Diego County. Announced on August 6, 2026, the funding comes through the Foundation’s Growing Green Spaces program and will support community-led environmental projects in neighborhoods and Tribal communities facing climate-related challenges, including extreme heat, flooding and poor air quality. The latest grants also include $30,000 in co-funding from the San Diego Women’s Foundation Collaboration Committee, supporting four of the Growing Green Spaces projects. Since the Growing Green Spaces program began in 2024, the San Diego Foundation says it has provided nearly $1.4 million in grants to more than 40 nonprofit organizations. The latest funding brings additional support to projects designed to improve environmental conditions and strengthen community resilience across San Diego County.
