Countries across the Americas are strengthening regional cooperation to improve epidemic intelligence and develop faster, more effective early warning systems for public health threats. Epidemic intelligence plays an important role in helping health authorities identify potential threats before they develop into larger public health emergencies. The initiative also included efforts to strengthen epidemic intelligence at the subnational level. A new Basic Course on Epidemic Intelligence was also launched through the PAHO Virtual Campus. The latest regional efforts reflect the growing importance of epidemic intelligence as countries work to strengthen preparedness against emerging and evolving health threats.
