An environmental awareness event for children was held in Turkmenistan’s Avaza National Tourist Zone to mark Caspian Sea Day and promote greater understanding of marine conservation and environmental protection. UNDP specialists, representatives of the Secretariat of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea, also known as the Tehran Convention, and members of Yash Tebigatchy introduced the children to the unique biodiversity of the Caspian Sea. The sessions highlighted the growing threats posed by marine plastic pollution and microplastics and emphasized the importance of cooperation to protect the Caspian marine ecosystem. Through the interactive “Guardians of the Caspian” quest, children participated in activities focused on water safety, biodiversity conservation and environmental protection. They were also introduced to practical tools for monitoring pollution that can support environmental volunteering and coastal clean-up activities.
