In early 2023, UNDP Sudan procured 15 Truenat machines from Molbio Diagnostics to expand rapid molecular TB diagnosis in hospitals across Sudan. These characteristics can help expand molecular testing in areas where conflict, displacement and infrastructure constraints make access to centralized laboratories difficult. The restoration of the Truenat network also supports Sudan’s national strategy to expand and optimize molecular TB diagnostics. The programme complements existing investments in GeneXpert systems, Line Probe Assay laboratories and emerging point-of-care TB diagnostic technologies. Strengthening molecular TB diagnosis can help ensure that people suspected of having tuberculosis receive accurate testing and prompt treatment.
