At approximately 7:30 p.m., NYC Parks lifeguards and EMS were alerted to the two swimmers in distress near Beach 84th Street. As the incident occurred after the beach was closed to swimming, lifeguards were not on duty in their chairs. FDNY swimmers recovered the 17-year-old boy near Beach 83rd Street and removed him from the water unconscious and unresponsive.
