During these hotter months however for most of the day the park is sitting empty, but hopefully not for long. Crews have begun fitting shade structures across the children’s play areas, the first stage of a project that will eventually cover 6,000 square metres of the 270,000 square metre site. Two of six planned toilet blocks, each fitted out with universal accessibility, have also just been completed, running in parallel with the shade works. Another predicted the canopies wouldn’t survive their first proper storm, joking that residents would be watching to see how long they actually last once autumn winds arrive.
