The Apple Watch has hardly changed since the first model was introduced in September 2014. Larger displays, thinner cases, and more power, as well as the more rugged Apple Watch Ultra – all upgrades that have improved the smartwatch but haven’t reinvented it. The Apple Watch Series 12 and the Apple Watch Ultra 4, set to be unveiled in September, are expected to receive only minor upgrades, led by a significantly more powerful processor. Among them is a variant of the Apple Watch that completely does away with a display to compete with Whoop, Fitbit Air, and Garmin Cirqa. Apple is also said to be working on an Apple Watch with a round display instead of a rectangular one, which could thus resemble an analog watch much more closely than the current Apple Watch.
