Chicago provided Yellow Banana with $13.5 million in TIF financing to acquire, rehabilitate and reopen six Save a Lot locations. When he first announced that he was exploring the idea of government grocery stores, he said: "All Chicagoans deserve to live near convenient, affordable, healthy grocery options. We know access to grocery stores is already a challenge for many residents, especially on the South and West Sides." This same idiocy is repeating itself in New York City, where Mayor Zohran Mamdani is creating government-owned grocery stores. Now, the same government that helped create the problem wants to ride in as the savior, promising that its sterile, taxpayer-funded grocery stores will fix everything?
