Filmmaker Gareth Edwards, who helmed 2025’s Jurassic World Rebirth and who was expected to stick in the director’s chair for its upcoming sequel, has left the project over creative differences, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The new film, which will be the fifth in the Jurassic World series and the eighth overall, has not been officially set or dated yet, but the assumption is that Universal Pictures is working hard behind the scenes to get the sequel going. Edwards had been reported to be staying on board last November alongside returning cast members Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali, and while the cast is set to stay in place, their director will not be. Rebirth grossed over $869 million worldwide and was written by original Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp, who is set to return to write the latest entry, too. It was followed by The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1997, Jurassic World III in 2001, before the franchise was reborn with the World series, which started in 2015.
