Firefighters from Devizes raced to Lupin Close in Calne shortly after midday on Saturday, August 8, after a car burst into flames. They were able to extinguish the fire, which caused heat damage to an adjacent house in the High Penn Park housing estate, within an hour using hose reel jets. “One crew from Devizes attended and two breathing apparatus wearers and two hose reel jets were used. Mark Ghinn, who had been travelling past the housing estate on Oxford Road when he saw the smoke, described the “dramatic” moment to this paper.
