Colombia reaffirmed this Monday its recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara, and announced the freezing of its recognition of the self-proclaimed “SADR”. The decision falls within the framework of strengthening the strategic partnership between Colombia and Morocco, the statement said. This decision means that “there will be no political or diplomatic contact, no exchange of missions, and no support for the “SADR” in multilateral fora, including the United Nations and the Security Council, where Colombia currently sits as a non-permanent member,” the statement added. Bogota stressed that this decision “fully respects international law, the Charter of the United Nations, as well as the framework set out by Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025) on the issue of the Sahara.” It thus reflects the shared desire of the two heads of State to open a new chapter in Moroccan-Colombian relations, based on a long-term strategic vision, with the ambition of elevating the partnership between the two countries to an unprecedented level.
