HYDERABAD: BJP MP M Raghunandan Rao on Tuesday alleged a massive “solar scam” worth about `200 crore in Telangana under the Centre’s rooftop solar scheme and said he had lodged a formal complaint with Union minister for new and renewable energy Pralhad Joshi seeking a high-level probe. In a statement, Raghunandan Rao claimed the Congress government had “duped” people and misused Central subsidies meant for the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (earlier discussed as Har Ghar Bijli Mukth Yojana). He said the state had identified around 40,000 households for installation of 2 kW rooftop solar systems under the scheme, promising free electricity up to 200 units as per its election manifesto. Raghunandan Rao accused the state government of “diverting” Central funds and running a “sub-contracting racket,” while simultaneously projecting the scheme as a Congress achievement. Yet you campaign as if you are funding it,” he said, demanding that the state either admit the irregularities or face a stoppage of central funds.
