The motion requested a report establish a "Swindon Veterans Naming Register", listing verified names of Swindon-connected veterans and fallen service personnel with a strong connection to the borough. Eligibility criteria is suggested to include: birth, residence, or significant connection to Swindon, service in the Armed Forces, and either death in service or notable contribution as a veteran. The plan would apply to major housing developments such as New Eastern Villages and Wichelstowe, embedding veterans' names into the fabric of emerging communities. "This is not about renaming existing roads, forcing developers to adopt particular names, or creating unnecessary bureaucracy," Cllr Cripps told the meeting. A 'lasting' tribute is planned for Swindon veterans.
