Microsoft Entra ID is updating its authentication engine soon so that Windows Hello for Business and macOS Platform Single Sign-On (PSSO) can be used as standalone multi-factor authentication (MFA) factors.
The change was shared on the Microsoft Message Center under ID MC1450134.
Admins must, however, update onboarding guides as users won’t receive automatic prompts to register a secondary backup method.
By deprecating legacy authentication methods, Microsoft can reduce reliance on vulnerable factors and expand native support for phishing-resistant cryptographic credentials across Windows and macOS.
In other Entra ID news, Microsoft just started sending out emails to users telling them that SMS and voice authentication will be retired in the coming moves and that they should move over to passkeys.
