A box of old Nintendo games found in Wisconsin turned out to contain nearly 100 copies of a previously unknown version of Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt.
The owner of OneStopWonders, a collectibles shop in Waukesha, Wisconsin, said the person who sold the box claimed Nintendo had sold the cartridges to a metal recovery service to be melted down for gold, but they were never destroyed.
So no one understands fully why Nintendo made a box of 100 of these,” Jason Ganos of Nintendo Wire said.
So this is one of the most-documented games in the history of video game preservation, and nobody has seen these specific carts before,” Ganos said.
Three of the cartridges are set to hit the auction block this month and could fetch millions of dollars.
