['Dr. Scott James']
d400
Image: Malahat SkywalkThe latest addition to the Skywalk – which welcomed its one millionth visitor this May – is the Overhang – a glass tube which extends two meters out beyond the edge of the spiral tower summit at 250 meters above sea level.
The glass on the side and ceiling is 36 millimeters thick, and the floor is 60 millimeters thick.
The Overhang is built to withstand wind up to 130 Km/h and temperatures from -40 to +40C, and was designed and constructed by Endwise Construction, who also built the Skywalk spiral tower itself.
The Overhang is wheelchair and stroller accessible, and is able to support the weight of two elephants.
