A section of the Migori Main Bridge in Suna West Sub-County completely collapsed, posing a serious danger to pedestrians and motorcycle riders who have continued using the crossing despite its closure.
However, one side of the bridge has now sunk further, creating a large hole and making the crossing increasingly dangerous.
Police officers led by Suna West Sub-County Police Commander Chrispinus Ogutu visited the scene and confirmed that the right side of the bridge had sunk, effectively blocking access to Migori town.
Officers moved to restrict members of the public from accessing the town through the bridge in an effort to prevent possible casualties.
Authorities have urged members of the public, particularly pedestrians and motorcycle riders, to avoid the damaged section until engineers declare it safe.
