The Kano State Government has spent N1.5bn on its latest mass wedding initiative, providing 1,500 couples with financial assistance, household items and other support to help them establish their homes. The latest exercise is the second major mass wedding organised by the Yusuf administration, following the marriage of about 1,800 couples in 2023. He later married Nabila Kabiru Yunusa through the state-sponsored programme, with Governor Yusuf serving as his guardian during the solemnisation. The 2026 programme reportedly attracted about 5,000 applications, from which 1,500 couples were selected after screening and verification. The mass wedding forms part of the Yusuf administration’s wider social intervention efforts to reduce financial barriers to marriage, support vulnerable residents and strengthen families across Kano State.
