The police chief said a disparity in crime makes a disparity in traffic stops unavoidable , but department leaders will examine the data and ensure people “know that we’re not policing them, we’re policing to keep them safe.”
The LMPD contract with Sigma Squared, the company that did this analysis, sparked some controversy when the Metro Council approved it back in February of last year.
Some data and reports came back, including this disparity report, which is 22 pages that the police department says isn't a report.
Because I didn't just want to live on the island of the Sigma Squared report today.
So, half the traffic stops in the city are coming from a fifth of the population.
