Copy link Archive article share on :Pope Leo XIV delivered his Angelus address on Sunday, August 9 — the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time — from the window of the Apostolic Palace overlooking a sun-baked Saint Peter’s Square, where the faithful had gathered despite the Roman summer heat.
His reflection centered on the Gospel passage of Jesus walking on the waters of the Sea of Galilee (Mt 14:22-33).
The disciples, freshly witnesses to a miracle, are sent out onto the lake while Jesus withdraws alone to the mountain to pray.
“After a successful experience,” Leo said, they find themselves “now powerless and frightened in the face of threatening waves and contrary winds.”
