Shark Sightings Keep Several Beaches Closed at Reid State ParkSeveral beaches at Reid State Park in Georgetown remained closed to swimmers over the weekend following multiple shark sightings near shore. In an update posted Sunday morning, officials said Mile Beach, Half Mile Beach and East Beach would remain closed to swimming. No additional shark sightings or updates on when the beaches may reopen have been announced. While shark sightings can be alarming, officials routinely monitor coastal waters and may temporarily restrict swimming when sharks, seals or large schools of baitfish are observed near popular beaches. WGME went on to say that visitors heading to Reid State Park should check for the latest updates before planning to swim and follow any posted warnings or instructions from park officials and lifeguards.
